CASE STUDY

Avon Maitland District School Board

Product information

Avon Maitland District School Board operates a variety of woodshop facilities within their educational system, providing hands-on learning experiences in woodworking. However, woodshop activities generate significant dust, posing health and safety risks to students and instructors. Effective dust control is essential in maintaining air quality, reducing fire hazards, and ensuring a safe, comfortable learning environment.

Dealer: HTS Ontario

Product: Maxivibe, Shaker Type Dust Collectors

Model: AMV-900

Application: Woodshop

Customer: Avon Maitland District School Board

Installer: Inglewood Mechanical managed the installation process, integrating the Maxivibe AMV-900 into the existing woodshop ductwork system. The clean air recirculation feature was connected to allow filtered air to re-enter the workspace seamlessly, maintaining temperature consistency and air quality while reducing HVAC demands. Inglewood Mechanical calibrated the system to ensure optimal dust capture and air recirculation based on the specific requirements of the woodshop.

Installation date: 23/09/2024

Challenges

The key challenge for the Avon Maitland District School Board was implementing an efficient dust collection system that could meet the following needs:

  • Adaptability to High Dust Loads: Woodshops produce irregular and varying dust volumes depending on project sizes, material types, and machine use.
  • Energy Efficiency and Clean Air Recirculation: Continuous dust collection systems can be costly to operate and maintain, especially in educational settings. A system capable of recirculating clean air back into the workshop was needed to conserve energy and reduce HVAC costs.
  • Compliance with School Safety Standards: The system needed to ensure dust control that would meet the safety requirements of an educational facility while maintaining a low-maintenance, user-friendly design.

AQC’S Solution

AQC recommended the Maxivibe AMV-900, a shaker-type dust collector with advanced features tailored for high-efficiency dust collection in woodshop environments. The AMV-900 included the following key components and benefits:

  1. Full Dust Collection System with Clean Air Recirculation: The AMV-900’s unique recirculation feature enables cleaned air to be reintroduced back into the woodshop environment. This reduces the need for heating or cooling adjustments, optimizing energy efficiency and cost savings for the school district.
  2. Efficient Shaker Mechanism for Maintenance Ease: The shaker system allows for easy filter cleaning, minimizing maintenance time and costs. This feature ensures that the AMV-900 operates effectively without requiring extensive manual intervention.
  3. High-Performance Dust Collection: The AMV-900 is equipped to handle variable dust loads effectively, capturing dust particles and removing them from the air before recirculating cleaned air back into the workspace. This maintains consistent air quality throughout the woodshop.
  4. Enhanced Safety and Health Standards: By providing effective dust control and clean air recirculation, the AMV-900 improves overall air quality, ensuring a safer, healthier environment for students and instructors.

Results

Since the installation, Avon Maitland District School Board has reported notable improvements in both air quality and energy efficiency in their woodshop facilities. The AMV-900’s clean air recirculation system has allowed the school board to maintain safe indoor air quality while reducing the need for external air heating or cooling. Feedback from instructors and students highlights a healthier and cleaner working environment, with dust levels well below safety thresholds.
