CASE STUDY

BlueWater District School Board

Product information

The BlueWater District School Board offers woodworking programs across its schools, providing students with valuable hands-on learning experiences. However, woodshop activities produce substantial amounts of dust, which, if unmanaged, can compromise air quality and safety within the facility. To address these challenges, the school board sought a highly efficient and cost-effective dust collection system.

Dealer: HTS Ontario

Product: Maxivibe, Shaker Type Dust Collectors

Model: AMV-1140

Application: Woodshop

Customer: BlueWater District School Board

Installer: Rozell Inc oversaw the installation of the AMV-1140 at BlueWater District School Board’s woodshop facility. The installation included setting up the clean air recirculation system to direct filtered air back into the workshop space. The system was calibrated to optimize dust collection and ensure effective recirculation of clean air.

Installation date: 28/08/2024

Challenges

The school board faced several unique challenges in ensuring effective dust management in their woodshop facilities:

  1. Irregular Dust Generation: Woodshops produce variable dust levels depending on machine usage, project types, and class schedules, necessitating a system capable of adjusting to these fluctuations.
  2. Energy Efficiency with Clean Air Recirculation: The dust collection system needed to filter and recirculate air back into the facility, conserving energy by minimizing the need for HVAC adjustments and external air intake.
  3. Low Maintenance: With limited access to industrial maintenance resources, the solution needed to be easy to maintain, with minimal downtime for cleaning or repairs.
  4. Compliance with School Safety Standards: Ensuring that the system would meet school safety standards while promoting a healthy, breathable environment for students and instructors.

AQC’S Solution

To meet the BlueWater District School Board’s requirements, AQC recommended the Maxivibe AMV-1140 model, a shaker-type dust collector with advanced clean air recirculation capabilities. The AMV-1140 was selected for its capacity to handle high dust volumes and its energy-saving features, making it ideal for a school setting. Key components of AQC’s solution included:

  1. Full Dust Collection System with Clean Air Recirculation: The AMV-1140’s recirculation capability allows filtered air to be reintroduced into the woodshop, helping maintain temperature stability and reducing HVAC loads. This feature ensures that the school board achieves energy efficiency without sacrificing indoor air quality.
  2. Shaker Mechanism for Simple Maintenance: The Maxivibe AMV-1140 utilizes a shaker system to dislodge collected dust from the filter, reducing maintenance time and eliminating the need for manual filter cleaning. This is particularly beneficial in school environments with limited maintenance resources.
  3. High-Efficiency Dust Collection: Equipped to handle the dust levels typical in a school woodshop, the AMV-1140 captures and filters dust particles effectively, maintaining a cleaner and safer work environment.
  4. Safety and Health Compliance: By delivering a consistent, high level of air quality, the AMV-1140 promotes a healthier environment, reducing airborne dust levels to safe thresholds.

Results

Since the installation, the BlueWater District School Board has seen significant improvements in air quality and energy savings in its woodshop facilities. The AMV-1140’s clean air recirculation feature has allowed the school board to maintain safe indoor air quality standards while conserving energy. Instructors and students have reported a noticeable reduction in airborne dust and an improvement in overall air quality, enhancing the comfort and safety of the learning environment.
